Summer In The City - Cooling off at Carrifest
Calgary's Carrifest (the celebration of all things Carribean) was held in a different venue this year - Olympic Plaza, right in the centre of downtown.
Olympic Plaza is where the medals were presented to athletes at the 1988 Olympic Games but now it makes for a great outdoor venue for city events and celebrations. It has a small stage at one end, a wading pool in the middle and tiered steps (for sitting and watching what's going on) at the other end. In winter the wading pool is frozen and used for skating. There's a garage next to the stage where they park the zamboni!
On this hot, hot weekend the water was a great place to cool off whilst listening to great music!
The adults in the photos are watching the band perform...the kids...well they're just being kids!

It looks positively pleasant up there.
ReplyDeleteIt has been raining in Elko 10 of the last 15 days.
It is so unusual that it has made the local news. (that is how I know it is 10 out of 15, if I had to guess I would have said 21 out of 21 days)
I like rain but this is supposed to be the driest state in the United States with an average of 7 inches of rain per annum.
I think we got 7 inches yesterday.
Looks like the weather has been nice in Calgary. No more snow, eh?
ReplyDeletehi, that looks like fun in a hot sunny day, great shots there..have a fab day :) cya MOnikarose
ReplyDeletelooking at these kids all I can think of is I wish my office was inside a pool. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy summers.
I have never seen a wading pool, it looks so funny!
ReplyDeleteI think hot must be a relative term. I notice from the pale white skins that they have not seen too much sun this year.
ReplyDeleteBitter sweet isnt it? Nice to have hot weather but the world is definitely getting hotter.... when I saw the first picture I thought maybe you had floods :::)))
ReplyDeleteIt's hot here too but sticky... not nice at all. What a difference with your rainy photos last week!
ReplyDeleteIt's so hot and dry here! I went to the beach at 4pm and couldn't stay there for long... The sky is not clearly blue but very 'heavy', if you know what I mean!
ReplyDeleteCool pictures of people cooling off!
